2009 Chapter Survey Report

In March, the Chapter/National Partnership Committee invited all primary chapter leaders on record to participate in a survey. The committee consists of current and past, chapter and state leaders from around the country. They meet to discuss how chapters are doing and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees. The survey provides a baseline of how chapters operate, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they differ. It helps direct and validate the committee’s deliberations.

129 of 198 chapters completed the 35 question survey. Of those reporting 22% are small chapter with under 20 members. 62% of the chapters said they could reach more than half their members by email and 79% said they can utilize the internet. But interestingly, 59% said they did not know HLAA had a public forum at 66% did not know HLAA has a group on Facebook. The results of most of the questions can be found here. An overview slide show is here. If you have any suggestions for the 2010 survey, contact Ed O’Brien at
